We Broke Ground!
The dirt work has begun for our new greenhouse and classroom/storm shelter! The children were so excited to see the big equipment working. We are so very thankful for everyone’s donations to help make this project a reality.
We Broke Ground!
2017 Christmas Program
We had a wonderful night! Over 300 people were in attendance at this years program. The children worked so hard and everything turned out wonderful. Thank you to all the volunteers that came to helps us and to Pastor Steve Suttles with the Church of the Nazarene for delivering a message to the children and their families about God’s love and sacrifice for each of us. Hopefully hearts were touched
We are growing at Cherry Street! We will be adding a greenhouse and additional classroom space to the west campus. The new classroom space will double as a FEMA rated tornado safe space for our students and staff. We must raise $150,000 to make these projects a reality. October is our month to donate to this building project. We are accepting donations and annual pledges. Pledges can be spread out over 1, 2, or 3 year periods. For example a $1000 pledged could be $83 per month over 12 months, $42 per month over 24 months, or $28 per month over 36 months. Every donation, no matter the size helps us reach our goal! All donations can be mailed to us at PO Box 414 Chanute, Ks or you can donate on line at www.cherrystreet.org. We also have a link on our facebook page.
We are needing Donations for the Christmas Baskets:
We are needing dish soap, all purpose cleaner, and laundry detergent. All donations will be given to our 80+ families we are serving this school year. Donations can be brought to 710 N. Forest.
We are growing Cherry Street!
I am very excited to share our plan to grow! We will be adding a greenhouse and a new classroom space for our garden class. Our garden class was started in 2003. It has been a great way to provide our children with hands on learning, problem solving opportunities, and to gain knowledge of growing their own food.
The dream of a greenhouse is not new. A few years ago we received donations for the specific purpose of purchasing a greenhouse. Those moneys have been in a savings account and have allowed us to begin the fabrication process with Stuppy Inc. They are a well known company in Kansas City that builds greenhouses. We will be getting a 30 x 48 foot greenhouse. This will enable us to do year round growing with the children!
Hear all about it!
Well…. not quite yet. We will be making an exciting announcement next month in our newsletter! Please keep the Board of Directors in your prayers as we continue to make improvements at Cherry Street. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
Back to School!
Our children will be coming back to Cherry Street and the Warehouse program on August 16th. Our “theme” for the year is going to be Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians. We will be dedicating one month to each fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
Please pray and consider how you can help us in our mission to share the fruit this school year with the children. We always need volunteers and love to have guest speakers.
So far this summer, our children were able to attend TWO VBS programs, 60 children have completed two weeks of swim lessons and we have served about 1,000 breakfasts and 1,500 lunches in June. As part of our dinosaur week, Mr. Martin, a Geologist from KDOT came and spoke with the children about the fossils we can expect to find in Kansas. We have a fun filled July planned for the children. We just want to thank each of you for your financial support and prayers for our summer programs!!
